Subject: How do I start coding?

My goal is to do puzzles and other programs in 2D and later 3D. I have been reading C++ Primer Plus (5th Edition). Does anyone recommend maybe another book that deals more with my goal? The reason why I ask that is because right now I am typing codes in a C++ compiler and getting text in the black window (I think it is call command prompt) but I want to work more with interactive animation/ images. Also, are there advantages in learning multiple language rather than just C++?
