Deleting the settings file fixed the flashing; thanks.
Using the default settings, the trippy animation I mentioned is extra 
beautiful. Steps:
- Maximize window
- Puzzle > Hemi-Dodecahedron > length 5
- Scramble > 40
- Options > Solve
This is your mind on drugs.
