I just downloaded version 2.2 of the program for
windows 95/98/NT. I think it’s the latest, correct me
if I’m wrong.

I hadn’t done a 3x3x3x3 in a long time, I first solved
one over 3 years ago… and wanted to see if my new
found skills in algebra would help in solving. After
an undergraduate education in pure math and consistant
sub-20 times on the 3x3x3.

I just built a very new and high-end machine (most
notably a $400 vid card) and am running in to some
*minor* issues that you (the prgrammers) might want to
know about, if you don’t already.

  1. The icon doesn’t show up in the OS, it shows up in
    the taskbar when instantiated though.

  2. In the very initial running of the program, none of
the twists worked, only rotating the view, not even
the ctrl-click. I was very disappointed at first, but
then closed out and opened it again and it ran ok.

  3. The turns are so rediculously fast I can’t follow
it. The animation barely appear, it’s pretty instant.
I tried all the options too and no luck.

So the reasons are obivous. I run WinXP Pro w/ SP2 on
a 64-bit AMD processor. I have the latest DirectX
(9.0c or something) and a very high-end video card
(SLi system, PCI-express slots). It’s sort of like
running old DOS games on a new machine, it goes so
fast just becuse it was originally programed for a
much slower system.

Thus I request a setting in the program to adjust
animation speed. A few years ago I remember looking
through the source code (C++ and it was probably an
older verison), and made various changes to my own
liking pretty easily (though caused some bugs)… thus
I would imagine this being a simple coding exercise.
And perhaps much needed.

I thought I may have read something about this issues
months ago, but I’m not sure. So the issue might have
been brought up by others before.
