Subject: Mechanisms for x^n where n>3

This has likely been mentioned before, but what could the mechanism for a n-dimensional puzzle look like where n is greater than 3?
For n=4, there are eight cells in which each cell has three axes that it can rotate on. Drawing a projected image of the tesseract would make it seem as though the center of each cell is a core, though I do not think that is the case. Does anyone have a better way of visualizing a mechanism?
